Letter to New York Times: The effect of the travel ban

Response to https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/24/opinion/impeach-fire-president-trump.html as published December 24, 2018 in New York Times:

The 2016 policy in only accepting immigrants to the U.S. from certain countries is close to segregation and needs to stop.

The members of the Board of Trustees of the American Mathematical Society expressed their opposition to the Executive Order signed by President Trump that temporarily suspends immigration benefits to citizens of seven nations.

The effect of the entry ban is that humans who are persecuted in their birth countries are unable to flee to the U.S.

The Statue of Liberty has stood as a landmark since the late 19th century as a welcoming symbol to immigrants arriving in U.S.A.

As a Norwegian citizen I visited the United States in 2014 and 2015 and saw the symbol. In 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 I have chosen to not visit U.S.A., because of the Trump administration.

Ole Aamot, Norway

I did not visit U.S.A. during the civil unrest in 2020/2021 either.
